The Weekend

The Weekend

Hello ladies, gentlemen and those half way between! What a weekend! Some astounding highs, and some cavernous lows.

First the good stuff...

Wow, what a weekend of sport! First up was a memorable F1 race in China today well won by Fernando Alonso ahead of Kimi "the Iceman" Raikkonnen and Lewis Hamilton, who barely held off Sebastian Vettel for 3rd place.

The race was a exciting affair, with lots of overtaking and full to the brim of differing strategies, some which worked and some which didn't.

It was a good day for my McLaren team as well, with Jenson Button finishing 5th but Sergio Perez continues to look lost in the sister McLaren.

My driver of the day though was a tough one, it was between Kimi, who had lost most of his front wing for the entire race, or Daniel Ricciardo, who finished an admirable 7th in his Toro Rosso. I'm going with Ricciardo and his best ever result.

Then we had the big game from the bottom of the Championship, my Rovers managed to grind out a 2-0 win at home to Derby, with goals from Jordan Rhodes and Scott Dann. First win in 12 I think and a very welcome 3pts to take us out the relegation zone. Excellent result!

Very welcome 3pts for the other Rovers in my life also, with Donny beating Crewe away from home 2-1. Promotion very much on the cards. Fingers crossed they win the last two games and get the title. They just about deserve it in my opinion.

Finally the Red Sox keep winning, the Bruins keep losing and the NFL draft inches ever closer!

Too Much A Hunter by Story Books

Musically speaking...

Had a bit of a splurge in music on this week, first up was the excellent Too Much A Hunter EP from Story Books, their debut release. Its soulful and sombre indie goodness. I'm a very big fan of "Simple Kids" and "Knot" two of the songs on this four track EP and predict big things for these guys.

Next up was "Run Boy Run" by Woodkid, which is a very catchy tune and builds into a superb crescendo of noise right at the end. Lovely stuff.

Finally the lady in my life recommended Newton Faulkner and I checked him out on her recommendation. All I can say is why have I never heard of him before! Inspired music from a very talented artist. "Dream Catch Me" has truly stolen my heart. Absolutely love that song and it holds real meaning for me.

The "not so good" stuff...

Had some very bad news on Saturday from my old man, seems his missus has taken a turn for the worse over the last week and isn't doing too well. Cancer is a horrible, obscene thing and as someone who annually donates to Macmillan nurses, I can't stress enough how good a cause it is to fund-raise for.

... and after that bombshell...

As I just finish up my last Strawberry and Lime Rekorderlig whilst watching the golf and chatting to someone amazing, I've been pondering a good way to end this blog... so here goes with a witty quote:

"It's better to have loved a small girl than never to have loved a tall"

I'm Back...

I'm Back...

Hello world, it's been a while!

I thought I'd get back into the world of blogging after being inspired, as many aspiring writers have, by a girl. Not just any girl, but a truly incredible one!

Handsome and not me...
This fairytale of modern life has to begin somewhere, so why not right here! For those who don't know me, I'm Jamie. I also respond to Jim, Jay, Jimbob, Jammie, Jaime and on weekends, Sally (but we don't talk about that very often!) Heh heh! Just don't call me James... long story!

I don't consider myself handsome and I'm far from a slender man, but I don't feel the need to apologise for that any longer. I'm large, hairy and speak like an express train. A proud Tyke with a heart of gold, reasonable wit and quick to laugh.

My employer...
I earn my living for a local social housing company as a IT tech support fella, basically I have a knack for fixing stuff of a electronic nature, be it phones, tablets or PC's and I'm pretty handy when it comes to data analysis which means I'm good with spreadsheets, databases and have a pretty good eye for detail. I love my work, its what I've wanted to do for a while and whilst I'm still growing into my role, I think I belong for the first time in ages!

Life hasn't always been good, in fact its been downright horrific at times. The obstacles I've put in my own way, driving friends away, losing touch with people and challenges I've faced such as seeing my darling nan slip away into dementure over the last few years, my dad slowly losing his missus to cancer, seeing friends suffer, have driven me to near despair.

Despite that, from the depths of despair, real optimism has flourished in abundance these past few weeks and it's largely thanks to a girl... not just any girl...

...an incredible one!

Thanks for reading! Check back tomorrow for another post!
